Biography

Derek Campbell is the Executive Chairman of African Metals Group, Ltd., a strategic metals/critical minerals/rare earth elements asset acquisition corporation that supports global energy transition. Derek is also the Advisory Board Chairman of GreenMet, Inc., a mining asset development company that monetizes rare earth elements and critical mineral projects in North America and Greenland.

 

In the world of wealth creation, Derek is a Founder and Principal of Aquila Capital & Partners – a London-based Merchant Bank and MFO serving accomplished and sophisticated business leaders from Africa and the Middle East.  He is also a Venture Advisor for Loyal VC – a Toronto-based global venture fund with 220+ investments across 50+ countries; an Advisor/Expert to Baltic Tech Ventures – a Riga, Latvia-based VC firm with an angel group backing early-stage technology companies in the Baltics; and a Senior Advisor to Versity Partners – a Connecticut-based PE Fund that focuses on BIPOC & Women-owned businesses. Additionally, Derek is a former “Mentor” for the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Founder Institute, an Incubator/Early Investment firm that provides support to start-up/early-stage venture companies. Of note, he is the Chair of the Washington, D.C. cohort of TIGER 21, a peer-to-peer networking group of UHNW Entrepreneurs and Wealth Creators.

 

Derek is an Advisory Board Member of the African Energy Chamber, where he sits on the premiere U.S.-Africa Energy Subcommittee, and also a Distinguished Fellow with the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils. He is a former principal committee member of the U.S. EXIM Bank’s 2020-21 Sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee, the former Chief of Military Plans for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and the former U.S. Marine & Naval Attaché to Nigeria.

 

Derek is a regular on the international Energy and Natural Resource lecture circuit, speaking as an authority on topics such as Energy Security, Energy Transition, and Extractive Industry geo-political market dynamics in Africa. He is also a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Derek holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland and an M.S.S. from the U.S. Army War College.
