Biography
Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan takes over as Chief Executive of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) on 1 March 2022, following the retirement of Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John, who helmed NCIA since 2019.
Mohamad Haris, who hails from Penang, has a degree in Finance, Accountancy & Banking from UUM and an MBA from USM. He started his career as an auditor with Deloitte, focusing and specialising in Budget, Accounting and Finance. Haris joined the World Fish Centre, an international non-profit research organisation. This was followed by a stint in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire as Finance Manager at the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice), a pan-African intergovernmental association. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
Haris has been involved in the development of the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) for the last 12 years since joining NCIA in 2010 as Finance Manager. He rose to Financial Controller in 2018 and was entrusted to the position of Chief Financial Officer in 2020. His significant role in financial management of development and operating expenditures of the organisation has been essential for the successful implementation of NCIA projects and programmes particularly during the recent challenging COVID-19 pandemic period. Haris has also been a key contact as federal liaison and maintains good relations with key stakeholders, keeping them updated on progress and ensures alignment of NCIA’s projects and programmes to RMK-12 and federal government policies – which are implemented with the objectives of increasing income, creating entrepreneurship opportunities and job creation, and attracting investments to NCER in line with the NCER Strategic Development Plan 2021-2025.
